WHAT IS THE STORY MAP?
The story map is a way of outlining, to allow you to organize your story in a visual, bird-eye-view manner before diving into the nitty gritty of the details. In creating this tool, I took elements from other outlines I really liked (The Snowflake Method, The Beat Sheet, to name a few) and worked with them to create something that I think answers some of the big questions authors (especially new authors) have when starting a new story.
There are four parts: each designed to take about 1/4 of the book. Each part has several points of interest, to keep your plot moving forward and your characters developing throughout the story.
Each icon links to a downloadable PDF of that sheet, completely free of charge. Feel free to print them off and apply them to the story that's just waiting to get out.
Have questions? I'll be posting periodically about The Story Map, both in tips on how to use it and in how I'm using it my own writing process. For more specific questions, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I'd be happy to help you out as best as I can.
Try it and have feedback? Let me know! I'd love to hear how I can make The Story Map better, to help as many authors as I can. I'd love to hear both the good and bad, to know how it helped you and how you wished it could have helped more.
